Art Party - Paint Palette Inspired Kids' Party!

I am so excited to finally share my Paint Palette inspiration kids' birthday party! I am not sure where the idea came from originally other than I remember thinking how cute it would be to have different color frosted cupcakes to look like "paint" on an artist's palette and I think the idea just snowballed from there!  I searched high and low to find the perfect invitation, and it was actually the last thing I found in preparing for the party -- but the one I found from Sarah & Abraham couldn't have been more perfect.  I was so happy to find it as it conveyed the style I was going for - cute, but not cutesy, and stylish - not cheesy. Since my "models" for the day were twins, Sara (no H!) even customized the sample she sent to me. Of course the boy "model" didn't get into the art thing so you won't see any pictures of him in the blog post! The cupcake topper with a little painter's palette is also from Sarah & Abraham.

For the flowers, I used Amac plastic boxes from the Container Store. Not your traditional "vase" but I liked the idea of using various containers in rainbow shades. Knowing that no party is complete without snacks, I chose to do monochromatic snacks (blueberries, strawberries, wasabi peas and m-n-m's in cute plastic pots also from the Container Store
I'm absolutely in love with the pinwhirls and the paper banner from Pinwhirls. Shana couldn't be more awesome and sent me samples for this shoot - she is amazing at working with you to get the right color and the right pattern combination for your party. I am so thankful to the Martha Stewart Dreamers Into Doers website which has introduced me to so many female entrepreneurs who are making very cool products, perfect for your next party!

No party would be complete without favors, and I knew it was a tall ask, but Laura from Little Laura Sweets (name change coming soon - Yum*Dalish is her new company) made some little palette cookies. The frosting "paint" ran a little, but I actually liked that they weren't perfect -- it made it look a little more realistic since let's face it, an art palette is pretty messy by the end of the day!

If hosting this party idea in real life, I'm guessing you won't have easels on hand for all of your little guests. Feel free to take my idea of using jumbo wall post-its, and tacking them to a fence with pushpins -- worked like a charm! I topped the push pins with mini pinwhirls just to make it look a little more festive.

Many thanks to my stellar photographer, Jen Frase. The adorable blonde girl with a frosting mustache is her daughter (her twin brother was not in an modeling mood). Many thanks to our other two cutie-patootie models. Luckily the kids seem to have a blast! The moms kept saying this was the best fake birthday party they'd ever been to!
