Friday Photo(s) - Lavender Loveliness

I had to share this gorgeous jumbo French Macaron photo that I saw earlier this week -- such a beautiful picture, and of course it is featuring a sprig of lavender, my favorite scent (I even dragged my boyfriend to a lavender farm in Kula, Maui recently!)

The picture is of Kate Slaton Dunbar, owner of Petite Reve Chocolates based in Ventura, CA. Kate (or Katie, as I know her) and I met in pre-school when we were at the same very small school in Ventura -- only 20 kids per grade, from three to fourteen! 

I've had the pleasure of reconnecting with her recently via Facebook and learning that we both have a love of sweets and have found ourselves in the wedding/events industry. It has been fun to see her business expand and grow courtesy of Facebook.

She posted another picture on Facebook earlier this week that I LOVED... a French crepe wedding cake. I don't think I've ever seen anything like it, so I asked her if I could share it on the blog. She was doing a photo shoot at the Lavender Inn in Ojai and this was her first wedding cake! The baker who was making a wedding cake for the photo shoot fell through at the last minute, so Katie took one of her staples (a crepe cake) and make a wedding cake version of it. The cake features three tiers, and each tier has between 16 and 20 crepes, with a vanilla bean pastry cream filling. Can you say yum?
