Save is not a four-letter-word, saving money = good! Here are just a few of my favorite money saving tips.
eBay.com offers a bounty of wedding-related items to assist in planning your wedding. Search eBay for old issues of Martha Stewart Weddings magazine, Town and Country Weddings, and InStyle Weddings. When ordered from the publisher, these back issues can cost upwards of five dollars each. On eBay, you can find them for as little as a dollar. These past issues offer a wealth of ideas and tips - I'm always looking back on my "archive" of Martha Stewart Weddings.
Some brides have scored designer wedding dresses for significant savings on eBay. A recent search on the site resulted in beautiful Carolina Herrera, Vera Wang and Amsale gowns. Often these dresses are unworn (sad but true: if an engagement is called off and the bride already had a dress, chances are she’d like to get rid of it). Just be sure to look for a dress that is a size or two bigger so you can alter it where needed. Ask the seller questions too — has the dress been altered? Has it been worn? Are the tags still on it? Was it a store sample? If it was, it may be dirty.
Another one of my favorite websites is Half.com, a veritable bounty of new and used books at discount prices. Half.com is a great resource for buying wedding planning books or travel guides for your honeymoon location. Shipping starts at around $3.00, a steal compared to other online booksellers. Why pay full price, when you can find a book for less? Discounts range, but many books are available for 30-50% off. Prices and condition will vary, based on who is selling the book. Each book’s condition is ranked from “Acceptable” to “Brand New”.
