In December, I filmed a dessert bar TV segment for Home With Lisa Quinn and the segment is now online. You can view the four-minute segment on the Live Well Network.
The pink and green colors from this dessert bar seem quite appropriate for the amazing apring weather that we have been enjoying in San Francisco. Enjoy the segment and revisit some photos from the shoot here.
Here are my tips from the segment for creating a dessert or candy bar for your event:
1. Start with color scheme. Don't stress too much about your colors and matching -- various pinks and greens are fine. They don't all have to be the exact same color.
2. Choose a rectangular table -- anchor against a wall -- I prefer a 6' table so that it looks "full" instead of an 8' table.
3. Make sure you pick linen that goes all the way to the ground, no table legs showing!
4. To generate visual interest, add height to your buffet. Start with a hanging banner or pom-poms.
5. Find vessels like these glass jars in varying heights. I added some simple painted blocks to also add elevation.
6. Mix in flowers for additional texture and interest!
7. Label the candy and desserts with tags.
8. When I do non-wedding candy buffets for kids, I try to mix in some non-candy options like animal crackers, goldfish or small toys like bouncy balls.
