Five Quick Tips from Liene Stevens of Splendid Communications

I've been reading Liene Stevens' blog, Think Splendid for a couple years now and it is one of my favorite go-to sites for good business advice for wedding pros. Her company, Splendid Communications, is a digital marketing agency that helps business owners with their Social Media marketing and strategy. I personally think her advice is good for business owners in general - and those not in the wedding industry can gain a lot from reading her blog. Prior to starting Splendid Communications, Liene was a successful planner herself and she shared today's Five Quick Tips with us.

1.  The boring details matter. It's easy to get wrapped up in the pretty, but make sure you know how many people your tent can hold with your table layout, what your venue's policy is on open flame candles, etc. The logistical details are what make an event run smoothly.

2.  Order one more table linen than you think you'll need.

3.  Hire a good cinematographer. It's the number one regret couples who didn't hire one have after their wedding.

4.  Use a pretty satin, wooden or personalized hanger to hang your dress while getting ready on the day of the wedding. It will look so much better in the photos than the wire or plastic hangers bridal gowns typically come with.

5.  Pad your wedding day timeline by 20 minutes. Don't tell anyone you did so.

And a few more questions for Liene:

What will you definitely do at your wedding when you get married?
I actually don't think about my own wedding that often (perhaps odd, given my industry), but I would have to say that when I do get married, it is almost always about the ceremony itself. I'd like it to be really simple, yet meaningful and personal and I wouldn't be surprised if I end up eloping.

What will you definitely not do at your wedding?
The garter toss.

Thank you, Liene, for today's tips!

  1. Good stuff! I can't agree enough with paying attention to details and YES YES YES! Add 20min and keep that a secret! (Well share it with your planner and your MC) Things tend to creep up...You know Murphy...the guy with "the Law?" ...He LOVES weddings...but if you're ready for him you can keep things moving.
    Thanks for the article!
